Yesterday (5/24) and today are both good reasons to force yourself to get on the bike in the morning and that reason is: the ride home. Seriously. Yesterday it was drizzling rain onto already soaked streets, the wind was blowing (when is it not?), and the sky looked like it was going to pour. I figured I could make it without getting too wet and/or cold. I did, it wasn’t the most fun ever but wasn’t too bad. I did pick up a tiny, very pointy rock somewhere near the elementary school on 62nd in Johnston. Having used my last tube two days before, I called to let Kyle know I’d be walking the last 3/4 of a mile or so, and he jumped in his car to come get me. That was pretty handy. The ride home was nearly perfect, clear, sunny, 60F, no wind. One of the better rides I’ve had this year. Similar story this morning. Chilly, kinda windy, slept poorly so I really didn’t feel like riding. Now it looks like it’s gonna be a great ride home, low wind, nice temps, clear skies and some nice sunshine.

Got the Flyer and application for our 24 Hour Race ready. Check out the pdf below. Highlights include: 24 or 12 hour races, solo or teams, $1000 to the top solo 24 hour racer, midnight pasta feed and chairlift rides(they’re fun), tons of swag, and free camping. The race is Labor Day weekend, Saturday noon-Sunday noon, so you have all Monday to recover without having to be at the office. There’s a discount for early registration, so if you’re interested, get signed up before August 18th. The pdf should open in yoru browser, but I’d recommend right click -> save as, seeing as it’s a little over 1 MB.

I swear it’s not intentional, but this is the third post I’ve made on a Monday, a week apart. I’ll try to blog more in the future, but other than riding to work I haven’t been up to much. The knee is finally feeling better, and the single speed needs cables and tires and then I’m ready to mountain bike again. I also got my pictures from TransIowa developed. Meh. None of them came out very well and the one’s I already posted are as good/better than the ones I took with that crappy disposable camera. I’ll try to get some pics of the single speed once i get it together, but I’ve been saying that for a few weeks now. But seriously, I’ll try to get some up.

If you did not get them during Bike to Work Week, and were one of the first 500 signed up, we’ve got a few pair, come get them. Bike to Work Week was a big success, with nearly 1400 people signing up and tons more riding anyway.
The weather has been great for riding, and the trails are fairly busy, which is a good thing. Our Wednesday night rides are being well attended, with all kinds of ages and abilities showing and having fun. It’s supposed to be nice again this Wednesday so, if you haven’t yet, come out and join the fun.

So, I was noticing the other day that once again, we failed to have the season of spring. Literally a month ago, it was snowing, cold and nasty. Now it’s reaching 90F on a regular basis. We seriously had about a weekend of nice weather. In between the snow and heat, it was mostly rain and tempuratures in the mid 60s. I guess we could call this spring as it hasn’t hit 100F yet, but 90 is hot enough for me to call it summer, so I vote we simply missed spring.
In other news my knee/ACL seems to get healing fairly well. A tad sore here and there, but I’ve been riding to work for a few days and it seems to be holding up pretty well. Not gonna go ride any huge rides in the near future but hopefully by the end of the month I’ll be back to 100% and can resume riding non-stop. My single speed is almost done and will get some pictures posted once it’s finished. Might get some “process” pics up too if i think about it.
