Winter C-League

So the men’s league season is over but we still have one last fun hockey game going on. Tomorrow Irwin’s is sponsoring a B League game before the Iowa Stars’ final home game of the season. The B game starts at 4pm, come watch Bill play with lots of guys better than he is. He freely admits that he’ll be the worst player on the ice, but it’s just for fun, and everyone else encouraged him so much he has to give it a go. Check out the team picture of our C league team. Click on it for a much better view. They finished second in the weekly standings, but sadly, lost in the first round of the playoffs.

California here I come

Sunday I’ll be flying out to SBCU in California and staying the week, culminating in two races at the Sea Otter Classic. The cold weather returned just in time for me to run away from it. Today in Morgan Hill it’s 72F. I’m pretty excited. Now back to packing.

Busy

Sorry for not updating for nearly a week. It’s been pretty crazy around here. Even the not so great weather this weekend hardly slowed us down. That said we’ve been having a lot of fun and getting lots of new stuff.

The women’s clinic was great fun, and a lot of ladies learned a quite a bit about bike maintenance/trail side repairs. I think the final count was 28 participants with 6 instructors. We had so much fun, we’re going to do it again. We haven’t figured out exactly when, but watch this website for more info.

One of the coolest new bikes we’ve gotten in just arrived this morning, it’s not even out of the box yet, but it’s finally here. 29 inch wheels, bright green, single speed, disc only, of course we’re talking about the Redline Monocog  Flight 29er. Come check it out in person, the rear dropouts and disc caliper mounting system really needs to be seen to be believed. It really is that cool.

We hope to have a Felt 29er on hand soon as well, reportedly they’ve started shipping, so we expect one any day now.

Sunday off training ride

Wind speed 20mph,soft gravel from rain the night before = 9 mph low gear 145 heart rate great TRANS IOWA training ride.I rode from my house north about 3 mi then went west into the wind about 4mi where there is a gravel that goes straight into Ames, just south of Ames went east with the wind. Then found a gravel south, after about 3mi south a German Shephard came after me, now regularly I’d crap my pants, but Mark told me usually you can outrun and outlast a dog. So I put the hammer down luckily a side tailwind pushed my rig up to about 23mph and the dog fell off after about 1/4 mile.Looking down at the HR monitor I saw 172, now thats interval training,so I finished the ride after about 2 1/2 hours and thought to myself only around 28 more for the TRANS IOWA experience.Im still learning about how my bike set up may be wrong but I can fix that.
